Olive

I was at my desk with Olive, my greyhound,
fast asleep on her bed next to me when Alison messaged to say she was about to communicate with Olive.

About ten minutes later, having forgotten the promise to communicate, Olive’s wagging tail alerted me. This wasn’t a rare occasion of one thump, but a walloping, whipping of her skinny tail. She was having the best dream. Next, her eyes flicked open but showed the typical rapid eye movement of REM sleep. There was no question that Olive was feeling happy and safe.

Olive recounted to Alison the incident of when she was a puppy and was attacked by an older dog, and how scared she is that it may happen again. This did happen, I’d forgotten the skirmish. Now we have an indication of where Olive’s constant debilitating anxiety comes from. And we can help her get over her fear.

Biscuit
